The point I was making is that he's not going to exploit us if we are folding a high percentage to raises.

As for the situation itself, it's a bit more complicated than the fundamental theorem of poker. We're looking to play each hand in our range in a way that maximizes its EV, and sometimes that requires us to bet hands we would typically check or check hands we would typically bet in a c-betting scenario.
